Live Actor Simulation Grant

Submission Deadline

October 19, 2026

Grant Value

Funding to cover the cost of Live Actor Simulation (LAS) to author a custom simulation (typically ranging from $500 to $1,000)

Grant Duration

Creation of new simulation during the 2026-27 academic year

Number of Grants Available

5 to 10, depending upon scope of work outlined in submissions

For over 30 years, LAS has been a leader in delivering high-impact experiential learning through the use of skilled actors, helping learners build the essential interpersonal skills needed to succeed in their future careers.

With a catalogue of more than 140 existing simulations, LAS is also equipped to develop new, customized simulations based on specific instructional needs. However, the cost associated with simulation development can often be a barrier for some units wishing to move from idea to action.

To help overcome this obstacle, we are pleased to offer targeted funding to support the development of new simulations for courses or professional programming. This initiative is intended for units where development costs pose a barrier, and where there is identified potential for ongoing, repeated use of the new simulation following development.

The deadline for submissions is October 19, 2026.

Grant Duration

January-April 2027

The Students as Partners (SaP) model creates paid opportunities for students to partner with faculty on teaching and learning innovation. Grounded in reciprocity, respect, and shared responsibility, SaP positions students as active co-creators, alongside instructors, strengthening engagement while supporting reflective, evidence-informed teaching practice (Healey, Flint, & Harrington, 2014). The Students as Partners in Generative Artificial Intelligence (SaP-GenAI) program applies this partnership model to generative AI.

Working with CELT’s Digital Learning (DL) team, student and instructor partners address real course needs such as assessment redesign, accessibility, student learning support, or discipline-specific GenAI literacy by combining instructors’ disciplinary expertise with students’ lived experience as learners and active users of these tools. Through this collaborative process, partners critically evaluate GenAI applications, build ethical GenAI literacy, and contribute to institutional priorities related to academic integrity, accessibility, and digital transformation goals outlined in TMU’s Academic Plan 2025-2030.

The deadline for submissions is November 10, 2026.

Inspired by the Dimensions Charter, to which TMU is a signatory, and the TMU Strategic Research Plan (2025-2030), the CELT Black-Focused Pedagogy Grants are designed to support research in Black-focused teaching and learning across a wide range of fields, including arts, social services, law, education, communication, sciences, entrepreneurship, community, and government. These grants aim to honour the legacy of Black-focused scholarship and research, fostering diverse methodologies and philosophies in teaching and learning. They are intended to benefit both the Toronto Metropolitan University community and the broader communities in which the university operates.

Grant recipients will have the opportunity to advance research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and explore pedagogical practices that elevate the voices and contributions of Black scholars and students. These projects will also aim to build and strengthen reciprocal relationships with Black communities. Additionally, the grants will support initiatives that center Black and Afrocentric experiences and ways of knowing in teaching and learning, addressing anti-Black racism and contributing to liberatory practices that promote a more just society.
