Managing Generative AI (GenAI) in the Classroom

A new practical resource guide from CELT

With the start of a new semester many of us at TMU are looking for further resources regarding how to approach and manage Generative AI in the classroom. This guide offers just that, surveying opportunities and risks of GenAI in higher education and offering a range of tools and practices to support active and ethical approaches.

Students in graduation gowns approaching the front of a traditional large hall. Statue-like hands reach into the frame and tear the building into two halves, representing humanities (text in Latin on top) and STEM (mathematical formulas on bottom). The torn middle portion is pixelated and blurry.

Unlocking Learning: Escape Rooms in the Classroom (and Beyond) with Arica Oliver and Dr. Mark Julien

What happens when you turn a lecture hall into an escape room? In this episode of Podagogies, Brock University’s Arica Oliver and Mark Julien discuss how they've gamified human resources education. From puzzle-based test prep to navigating campus offices, their escape room activity blends competition, collaboration, and critical engagement with equity and human rights. The conversation explores how playful design can deepen learning, foster community, and make “dry” content memorable—while still addressing serious issues in HR and management.

Together, we will explore strategies that seek to address questions such as: What unique learning opportunities can our lab and studio spaces offer learners? How can instructors foster inclusion and collaboration in these spaces? And what forms of assessment best capture the learning that takes place in labs and studios? Attendees will leave with concrete strategies for enhancing their lab and studio pedagogy.
