We’re adding new, in-person events for the morning of Learning & Teaching Conference Day 1, Monday, May 11. Come learn how faculty have integrated insights from CELT
and Office of Social Innovation (OSI) programming into their learning and teaching activities. Choose from six sessions including round table discussions, interactive workshops and project spotlights. We welcome all faculty, contract lecturers, staff and graduate students to register and participate in-person.

New Funding Opportunity: Students as Partners in GenAI |
Deadline: June 8, 2026, 4 p.m.

The Students as Partners in Generative Artificial Intelligence (SaP-GenAI) program provides small, term-based grants to support student-instructor partnerships in which one instructor
and one undergraduate student partner co-design and co-create digital learning innovations that engage with GenAI in ethical and pedagogically meaningful ways. To support applicants, an AI-based SaP-GenAI Grant Guide is available to help explore project ideas and run a proposal readiness check.

CELT's SoTL Retreat
Date: Monday, June 1 - Tuesday, June 2, 2026
Time: 10 a.m–4 p.m.
Location: On-campus at TMU
The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) invites faculty to apply for the inaugural Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Retreat from June 1–2 hosted in-person at TMU. This two-day retreat offers dedicated time and structured support to develop, refine, or advance SoTL projects focused on the systematic study of student learning. Participants will engage in expert consultations, guided project development (from ideation to methodology and dissemination), collaborative seminars with SoTL-engaged colleagues, and focused time for independent writing, planning, and analysis. Space is limited!
Registration will close on Monday, April 27, 2026, 5 p.m.

Course Design Retreat
Date: Wednesday, June 3 - Thursday, June 4, 2026
Time: 9 a.m–4 p.m.
Location: DCC 713
Are you teaching a new course next year? Are you revising your course to account for changing conditions such as increased class sizes or student use of GenAI?
Enrol in the Course Design Retreat (CDR) to arrive with a course concept and leave with a draft syllabus. Participants will get support in all aspects of course design, including major assignments and class activities. The CDR is part of the Excellence in Teaching Program (ETP), and is open to all TFA and TFA-LTF faculty. It will be held in person in the Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC) from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. on June 3 and 4, 2026.

TMU School of Journalism launches season 4 of award-winning class podcast with the help of the CELT Learning & Teaching Grant
|

TMU journalism students are taking on new challenges with the
launch of the newest season of We Met U When…, a podcast that tracks down people from past news stories and explores how the journalism industry can do better. Students who took the JRN 801/JN8407: Advanced Podcasting and Radio Documentary course share their experiences producing episodes and working with community advisors.

Going beyond the traditional English lecture, this episode explores Dr. Sarah Bull's course Cultures of the Book, where students explore the technology behind the text. From working with oak gall inks to creating new visions of what a book
can be, Sarah shares how she uses experiential learning to engage her students in an exploration of the written word.

This year’s Day of Pink honours two anniversaries: 25 Years Since Little Sisters Bookstore v. Canada and 25 Years Since the Modernization of the Benefits and Obligations Act.
There will be special guests at the event, including: Jeremy Dias (founder of dayofpink.org) , Martin Boyce (a participant in the 1969 Stonewall Uprising), Adrienne Rosen & Lamar Van Dyke (two of the "Brunswick Four" activists whose 1974 protest in Toronto was a watershed moment for Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ rights.)

New to SoTL? Interested in having a regular space to discuss SoTL literature and connect with other folks at TMU interested in SoTL?
Join us for our SoTL Journal Club starting on Thurs, April 23! At our first meeting, we'll discuss this paper on building trust in the classroom by Felten et al. (2023). Open to TMU faculty, contract lecturers, and staff!
The Journal Club will be meeting on a monthly basis and you're welcome to drop-in/out however works best for you.
