Opening this week: Indigenous and Black Flourishing Fund

The Office of Social Innovation’s Indigenous and Black Flourishing Fund (IBFF) will provide up to $5,000 for Indigenous and Black undergraduate, graduate, continuing education students, and postdoctoral researchers and fellows enrolled at TMU for individual and community-engaged initiatives that advance growth, flourishing, social justice, and systemic change.  


Applications open November 7, 2025.

Nominations for the Viola Desmond Awards are open! Recognize the outstanding impact of Black women and gender-diverse faculty, staff and alumni at TMU by submitting a nomination.  


This year, The Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion is partnering with the Ted Rogers School of Management to celebrate the impact of Black women and gender-diverse leaders who carry forward Viola Desmond’s legacy of resilience and resistance.

Apply to use TMU’s Active Learning Classroom for Winter 2026

TMU's Active Learning Classroom (ALC) is a space for instructors to explore and experiment with active learning pedagogy, the space is flexible and includes a variety of design features to encourage participatory learning in a welcoming environment and to encourage active collaboration between students and instructors.


The ALC is available for Winter 2026 teaching. Please submit your request by the deadline of November 12, 2025.

Trent SoTL Symposium

Trent University will host a free, virtual SoTL Symposium on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20, 2026. The symposium will feature presentations from faculty and staff working in higher education across Canada on a range of topics related to SoTL research and educational development work. This year's SoTL Symposium theme is "Teaching and Learning from One Another" in recognition of the symposium's goal of fostering connections and community amongst SoTL-engaged faculty and staff. 


TMU faculty and staff are encouraged to submit proposals before December 1, 2025.

In this episode, Dr. Clare Hutchinson, pediatrician and Interim Assistant Dean of Curricular Innovation at TMU’s School of Medicine, joins Heather and Curtis for a deep dive into the importance of feedback in medical education. Dr. Hutchinson shares how she helps students shift away from the fear of judgment by normalizing feedback from Day One. Drawing on Pendleton’s model and the R2C2 framework, she highlights how focusing on actionable behaviors rather than personal criticism can make feedback more timely, specific, and learner-centered.

Indigenous Education and Treaties Recognition Week at TMU

Date: Nov. 3 - 7, 2025

From November 3 to 7, 2025, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) will host Indigenous Education and Treaties Recognition Week (TRW) with a series of events across campus that includes educational presentations, cultural celebrations and a film screening. Community members are encouraged to participate in programming aimed at deepening understanding of Indigenous experiences, treaty rights and treaty relationships in Canada, all contributing to the broader work toward reconciliation.

Talking Treaties: A Read-In for Educators and Staff

Faculty, contract lecturers, AAs and staff are invited to join the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) for a community read-in to learn about the treaties that cover the territory that Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) sits on. We will interactively and collectively read excerpts from several treaties, then discuss our relationship to them as learners and educators. In advance of the session, we ask that participants read Chapter 27 of Chelsea Vowel’s Indigenous Writes.

FREE SCHOOL 2025 - Unsettling Journalism: A Conversation About Living With Drones

Our first 2025 Free School is a presentation from stitched!, a live journalism studio at the Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University. Their recent show, Living with Drones, is an interactive, multi-sensorial performance about the sounds of war, in particular the use of drones, and their devastating, traumatic impact on the residents of Gaza. Living with Drones debuted at the Camden People’s Theatre in January 2025 and has continued to engage audiences at sold out performances in Toronto, Ottawa, and Washington, D.C.


Supporting Sanctuary Scholars' Safety on Campus: Session for Faculty and Staff
