What is the SJPP? |
The Social Justice Pedagogies Program (SJPP) is an annual cohort-based, in-person program for TMU faculty that aims to equip educators with strategies, knowledge, and skills to build a more just world through their teaching.
This year’s program, titled “Teaching as Responsibility: Social Justice Pedagogies on Turtle Island” explores the role of teaching in our collective responsibility to build a more just world. Grounded in a curriculum that critically examines structures of oppression on Turtle Island, the program invites participants to reflect on how teaching can be a site of resistance, transformation, and solidarity.
As part of the program (and beyond), participants will:
Learn from and participate in a community committed to social justice in education.
Design their own teaching interventions informed by social justice frameworks, with attention to place, power, self, care, responsibility, and solidarity.
Contribute to a community celebration where participants present their work alongside guest speakers and other community members.
This year’s in-person portion of the program will run for nine weeks, beginning on September 25, 2025 and ending on November 20, 2025, and the virtual portion of the program will run from January to May, 2026.
