Last Chance to Apply to use TMU’s Active Learning Classroom for Spring/Summer 2025

TMU's Active Learning Classroom (ALC) is available for Spring/Summer 2025 teaching.

About the Space

Designed to support student learning by providing a space for instructors to explore and experiment with active learning pedagogy, the space is flexible and includes a variety of design features to encourage participatory learning in a welcoming environment and to encourage active collaboration between students and instructors.

Located in KHW-57, the classroom was designed to incorporate the learning space design values developed by the Teaching & Learning Spaces Working Group and to reflect the Indigenous design principles identified through the Indigenous Community Consultations. The classroom intentionally supports the wellbeing of all users through the use of design elements such as tunable white lighting, accessible furniture, and the incorporation of Indigenous art.

Booking the Active Learning Classroom

The ALC is best suited for classes and events that involve high levels of participation, collaboration and creative engagement, and is not appropriate for traditional lecture-style formats. The room is available for course-based teaching and events by request. 

As the capacity is limited (52 persons, including instructional staff), the ALC may not be suitable for all courses or events. The ALC is also in high-demand, and not all requests can be accommodated. It is recommended that you submit your request early and include as much detail as possible.

Requests to teach in the Active Learning Classroom must be submitted eight (8) weeks prior to the start of the Fall and Winter terms, and five (5) weeks prior to the start of the Spring/Summer term. The deadline to book the ALC for Spring/Summer 2025 teaching is April 1, 2025.
